Ir Pooba Mahalingam is a Regional Risk Consultant with over 30 years of practical experience in risk/insurance, investigation, people management, product sales and leadership. He is specialized in the insurance space with special focus on property, casualty and engineering insurance and risk management aspects. Pooba is also a professional engineer with insurance expertise.

He is based in Singapore and serves the region and beyond under the “Talent Asia Training & Consulting” banner – conducting risk surveys, investigation, training, coaching and providing technical advisory services.

Pooba is a well-known risk and insurance personality in the Singapore – Kuala Lumpur – Asean region and beyond.

He has also taken up assignments from insurance companies and brokers (both retail and reinsurance) in the region. He has also provided technical and management services to insurance & Takaful companies in Brunei.

As an Expert Witness, Pooba has supported in legal cases and arbitration matters in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Sri Lanka. This year he was invited by the Asian International Arbitration Center (AIAC) to participate in various technical panel discussions.

Pooba used to manage technical and complex risks and reinsurance business for an insurance company in Singapore. Prior to that he was attached to an insurance risk management company in Singapore and led its C.P.E regional team for over five years. This was a regional assignment and was also based in Christchurch, New Zealand as a member of the CAT loss team handling the 2011 earthquake occurrence.

Earlier in his career, Pooba was attached to another international firm where he was responsible for risk management and insurance risk management. He gained further regional risk and insurance exposure where he handled cases in Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.

Pooba has served in senior positions in the insurance industry as Manager, General Manager and Executive Director with budget / top line business responsibilities. He has also worked with the corporate sector managing teams in consulting and infrastructure schemes prior to joining the insurance industry in the mid-90’s.

Pooba was the President of the Insurance Law Association, Singapore (ILAS) for three terms (2016-19) and now serves as Singapore Councilor in the International Division of AICLA.
