5G: The Next Frontier of Wireless Communications
You might start to wonder, what was 4G or 3G and the generations before it. What did they do or have to offer? And is there such thing as 1G?
What is 5G?
Do you recognise the word 5G? In today’s world, everybody is talking about 5G, everyone wants to move to 5G and that we should wait no longer. But what is 5G? And how is it different from 4G and how is it going to impact our lives?
To explain it clearly, 5G is the fifth generation of wireless communication network.
How about 4G, 3G, 2G or 1G?
You might start to wonder, what was 4G or 3G and the generations before it. What did they do or have to offer? And is there such thing as 1G? Well, to put it simple, 1G was basically voice call on the mobile phone itself. It was those days when mobile phones were mainly just voice calls and nothing else. Then, it evolved into 2G or the Short-Messaging System (SMS) network and that allowed us to send short text over the phone. 3G was when internet came along and tagged in to provide us web browsing and surfing via our phones (but it was very slow). Then came 4G or so-called LTE which allowed high-speed internet to function over telephones, especially smart phones, which also came about at the right time. So, that makes the next frontier to be 5G.
How does 5G enhance digitalisation experience?
Every telecommunications company in the world today are heavily researching and prepping up for this new frontier and all of them want to be the first one to provide it. Some telcoes or smartphone companies have already claimed to provide 5G-ready signals and devices. So, how far are we to using 5G and what does it have in store for us?
If you’re noticing a slight delay or cut-offs during your video calls and internet surfing, 5G is the answer and solution to all of that. 5G basically provides better form and signal of data connection that 4G or 3G could never have done. Which means during your video calls or conferencing, downloading and streaming process will be as smooth as butter as compared to 4G. This also opens new frontier and revolutionary processes that previous generations of telephony communications never could achieve.
5G opens up new avenues to wireless communications that currently only wired communications are able to do. Think about instant download and streaming within 5G city limits without delay, smart cars or homes communicating and reacting to each other, and even remote-surgery for doctors when it comes to the field of medicine. All these brings us a seamless and uninterrupted data connection that all users can experience and also opens up new frontiers for never-before-seen processes or procedures to exist.
